Plastic Profiles made of Polybutylentherephthalat – PBT

PBT, short for polybutylene terephthalate, is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic belonging to the polyester family of plastics. In chemical structure, PBT is very similar to PET. It is synthesized from 1,3-propanediol and terephthalic acid.

This plastic combines many technically valuable properties, such as very high resistance to chlorinated and corrosive solutions. In addition, it has high strength, rigidity, dimensional stability when exposed to heat, and a very low tendency to creep deformation. PBT is also scratch-resistant. The mechanical and technical properties are slightly inferior to those of PET. However, PBT is much easier to handle and process.

PBT is used for many different technical functional parts where good temperature behavior, good sliding properties and low wear are important. It is used for guides, profiles, rails and many other applications in mechatronics, mechanical engineering, vehicle construction and other areas of industry.

Binder + Wöhrle processes PBT in the field of plastic extrusion and injection molding. B + W has different types in use and produces customized plastic pipes, hoses -profiles, -sheathings, ¬connections and much more in the diameter range of 0.5 – 50 mm.
